Product Manager, IP Licensing

We have an opportunity for a flexible, enthusiastic individual who already has Product Mangement experience and is now looking for a role where they can take ownershp of product management for an entire product range. Working on our range of software products sold by the IP licensing model, this role’s purpose is to create, gain agreement for and implement product strategies within target markets to secure long-term profitable growth and the achievement of revenue and profit objectives. This is an extremely varied role, which will involve working throughout the product lifecycle from strategic planning to tactical activities by:

·       developing a vision and roadmap for the products based on input from internal stakeholders, customers, market research and their own industry insight

·       developing, implementing and managing strategic licence agreements with major customers to gain significant revenue from licence fees and royalties

·       forecasting for the product based on input from actual and potential customers, market analysis and their own experience

·       managing the creation and maintenance of marketing plans and collateral

What you will do:

·       Analyse and assess potential TAM and SAM for customers and market segments in order to make recommendations on potential partnerships and licensing opportunities

·       Own the product roadmap for the products and help define new functions and features by:

o   researching and reporting on customer expectations

o   undertaking competition analysis and benchmarking

o   identifying and qualifying new market opportunities and use cases, developing new product roadmaps accordingly

o   evaluating new product ideas for their financial and market potential

·       Create marketing collateral, writing Product Requirements and Market Requirements documents

·       Work with finance and sales functions to set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals

·       Work with engineering to manage development projects to deliver to plan and on budget by:

o   defining product specifications using clear and consistent acceptance criteria and customer satisfaction targets

o   with the Director of Software, setting delivery timescales and monitoring progress, intervening early to resolve issues and roadblocks

o   resolving functional questions throughout the development effort

o   tracking performance of products, identifying appropriate corrective actions

·       Manage external marketing activity:

o   Propose a product marketing plan and budget and then deliver against it

o   Develop core positioning and messaging for the products

o   Help to create a social media strategy and maintain a presence on relevant social media

In the current situation, we are all working remotely. While we will offer you support and help to get up to speed quickly, you must be happy to integrate into a new team and company while working independently. In due course we will return to our office on Cambridge University’s West Campus, but even then, we plan to offer a mixture of home and office-based work to all our team members.

What we need:

Someone who can juggle multiple priorities successfully and work simulaneously with products aimed at different market segments. You should have:

·       Proven strategic and commercial experience in a product management role with a forward-thinking technology company, which should include a successful track record of new product development in B2B2C product markets.

·       Sound understanding and practical experience of modern technology stacks, application development methodologies and hosting infrastructures including cloud and on-premise.

·       Experience of developing and implementing go to market strategies for software products, including experience of researching markets and competitors

·       Ability to influence product strategy at Board level

·       Ability to continuously prioritise development based on business value

·       Ability to create and foster consensus from relevant stakeholders for a coherent product vision

·       Excellent written and spoken communications skills; demonstrable success in influencing internal and external stakeholders
